Hocking International Laboratories purchased the Suzlon property on Jan. 26, 2016 for $3,125,000, with personal property worth $800,000 included in the sale computers, air sanders, vacuum systems, resin mixers, portable gas heaters, high stairs, foam cutters, work tables, vacuum pumps, digital phones, cabinets, cranes, floor sweepers and dust collectors according to the eCRV from the Pipestone County Auditors office. Tax court orders and judgments were filed in late August of this year ordering Pipestone County to reduce the EMV from $10,366,400 to $3,378,300. The taxing authorities were also ordered to pay back the overpaid taxes for 2014, 2015 and 2016, with interest and penalties, and to allow Suzlon to recover its costs and disbursements. The county collects all taxes and then distributes to the taxing bodies, like the city of Pipestone, three times per year. The third distribution was to be made Dec. 1. Reich said the county decided to deduct the $190,019.01 the city owned Suzlon from the property taxes that were to be distributed to the city. Lenae Scholten, city treasurer, said during the Pipestone City Councils Dec. 5 meeting that it would have been cleaner to receive the full property tax distribution from the county so the city could record the revenue, and then cut a check for the amount owed.
